Going Home
You must have a responsible person accompany you home and it would be best to have a person remain with you through the first night you are home.
Activities
It is normal to experience some fatigue, nausea, dizziness or drowsiness following anesthesia and surgery. Do not consume alcohol, drive, operate machinery or make important personal or business decisions for 48 hours. You can shower 48 hours after surgery. Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting (>10 pounds), baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, tampons and intercourse for 6 weeks. Walking and stairs are safe.
Diet
There are no restrictions on diet as long as you are not experiencing nausea or vomiting. If you are feeling unwell, then eat only light meals.
Medications
Mild aches, pains or cramps are common after surgery. This can be relieved with acetaminophen or ibuprofen (or similar medications). These are all available over the counter. A prescription has been provided for you for stronger pain medications and a stool softener.
Wound Care
A small amount of bright red blood from the vagina is expected. If you feel that the amount is excessive, call the office. Remove the steri-strips in 7 to 10 days. It is easiest to do this in the shower.
Emergencies
Call the office during office hours if problems arise such as bladder difficulties, persistent nausea or vomiting, bleeding that does not stop, unusual pain, fever, redness, swelling or drainage of pus.
If you are unable to reach the office, please go to the Emergency Room to be assessed.
Follow Up Care
Please call the office to schedule a follow up in 6 weeks.
